  • A worksheet to practice on YOUR chart

  • Common mistakes to avoid

Let's put it all together!

The Big Picture: Your Chart Is a Story

Before we dive into steps, remember this:

Your birth chart is not a list of isolated facts. It's a story. The planets, signs, houses, and aspects all work together to tell the story of YOU.

Your job is not to memorize every detail. Your job is to find the main themes – the plot of your life.

Step-by-Step Guide to Reading Any Birth Chart

Step 1: Start with the Big Three

Always begin with the foundation:

Write one sentence combining them:

"I am a [Sun] at my core, needing [Moon] emotionally, appearing as [Rising] to the world."

Example: "I am a Capricorn at my core, needing Cancer emotionally, appearing as Libra to the world."

Step 2: Check Your Element and Modality Balance

Look at where your planets are. Which elements and modalities appear most?

This gives you a quick sense of your overall style.

Step 3: Look at Crowded Houses (Stelliums)

Which houses have 3 or more planets? Those are your life's main stages.

Write down your top 1-2 crowded houses.

Step 4: Find Your Chart Ruler

Remember your chart ruler from Week 1? It's the planet that rules your Rising sign.

Now look at where your chart ruler is located:

  • What sign is it in? (adds flavor)

  • What house is it in? (shows your life focus)

  • Does it have any major aspects? (adds depth)

Your chart ruler is like the "lead actor" in your story. Pay extra attention to it.

Step 5: Notice Major Aspects

Look at the aspects involving your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars).

Don't try to interpret every aspect. Focus on the strongest ones (smallest orb) and the ones involving your Sun, Moon, or chart ruler.

Step 6: Write a Paragraph About the Person

Now, combine everything into a short paragraph.

Template:

"[Name] is a [Sun sign] with a [Moon sign] moon and [Rising sign] rising. Their life path focuses on [chart ruler house] and [crowded house themes]. They have a natural gift for [easy aspects] but face growth edges around [challenging aspects]. Overall, they are here to [big picture purpose]."

Sample Chart Reading: Meet "Alex"

Let's practice on a fictional person.

Alex's Chart Summary

Step 1: Big Three

  • Sun in Leo: Core identity is creative, confident, wants to shine.

  • Moon in Cancer: Emotional needs center on home, family, nurturing.

  • Rising in Libra: Comes across as charming, diplomatic, relationship-oriented.

"Alex is a Leo at their core, needing Cancer emotional security, appearing as Libra to the world."

Step 2: Element Balance

  • Fire: Sun (Leo), Jupiter (Sag) – strong fire energy

  • Water: Moon (Cancer), Saturn (Pisces) – strong water too

  • Air: Rising (Libra), Mars (Gemini) – some air

  • Earth: Mercury (Virgo) – minimal earth

Alex has a mix of fire and water – passionate AND emotional. They might feel pulled between action and feeling.

Step 3: Crowded Houses

  • 10th house: Sun, Mercury – career, public image are central

  • 4th house: Moon, Saturn – home, family are also major themes

Alex's life revolves around career AND home – a classic work-life balance challenge.

Step 4: Chart Ruler

Rising Libra → ruler Venus in 9th house (travel, philosophy, higher learning).
Venus in Leo (creative, dramatic love) opposite Saturn (restriction, responsibility).

Alex's life path involves finding love and creativity (Venus in Leo) through travel or learning (9th house), but they face lessons around commitment and responsibility (Saturn opposition).

Step 5: Major Aspects

  • Sun trine Jupiter: Natural optimism, confidence, luck in career. Things flow.

  • Moon square Mars: Emotional tension. Alex may react impulsively when upset. Learning to manage emotions.

  • Venus opposite Saturn: Challenges in love. May attract older partners or feel restricted in relationships. Learning to balance love and responsibility.

Step 6: Putting It All Together

"Alex is a Leo at their core, needing Cancer emotional security, appearing as Libra to the world. Their life path focuses on career (10th house) AND home/family (4th house) – a constant dance between public and private life. With their chart ruler Venus in the 9th house, they find meaning through travel, learning, and creative expression. They have natural optimism and confidence (Sun trine Jupiter) but face growth edges around emotional reactions (Moon square Mars) and committed relationships (Venus opposite Saturn). Overall, Alex is here to shine in their career while building a secure emotional foundation, and to learn how to balance love with responsibility."
